Smart look and robust design for Bancontact CASH points thanks to decorative MDF

The interior of an unattended building open to the public needs to be able to take a knock or two. How do you keep it looking fresh as a daisy after many years of use? The interior architects at Planet Interior took this into consideration when they were designing Bancontact's CASH points. The answer they came up with was decorative MDF from Unilin Panels.

“We came across decorative MDF while the project was still in the development phase,” recounts Jan Baelus, founder of Planet Interior. "Ines Goeminne, Project advisor at Unilin Panels, pleasantly surprised us with a prototype of decorative Fibralux MR Black in Super Matt finish. Robust black MDF with a stylish look thanks to the transparent lacquer finish: it perfectly matched what we were looking for."

"The matt lacquer layer with soft touch effect is what won us over. It makes the panels scratch-resistant, easy to clean and does not leave fingerprints. Our contractors were also full of praise: the MDF boards are easy to work with and you get very little waste."

The surround for the cash machine itself is in HPL, a similarly rugged product that holds up well to heavy traffic. The metallic Brushed Alu finish also perfectly complements the smart look.

There are currently 170 CASH points in Belgium. Jan is ambitious: “By the end of 2024, we want to have passed the 750 mark throughout Belgium.”
