Our entire range of raw and melamine-faced MDF has just achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope Bronze v4.0.

A new benchmark for sustainable MDF with Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope Bronze v4.0

06/01/2026

Sustainable MDF? That already sounds familiar. But we’ve taken it a step further. Our entire range of raw and melamine-faced MDF has just achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope Bronze v4.0. A world first for MDF. And clear proof of what you can expect from us: materials that are safe, circular and responsibly made.

A certificate that looks beyond the surface

Cradle to Cradle Certified® ranks among the strictest sustainability standards worldwide. It doesn’t just look at what goes into a product. It also checks how it’s made and what impact it has on people and the environment.

Until now, our MDF was certified for material health only. With this Full Scope certification, we show that our MDF also meets the criteria in all other areas: product circularity, social fairness, water and soil stewardship, and clean air and climate protection.

Our entire range of raw and melamine-faced MDF has just achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope Bronze v4.0.

What does it mean exactly?

For this certification, raw MDF and HDF (including Fibrabel and MDF specialities) as well as melamine-faced MDF (such as Clicwall) were assessed against the demanding Cradle to Cradle Certified® V4.0 standard.

The results confirm our concrete commitments:

  • Material health: We thoroughly screen MDF raw materials for chemicals, so you can rely on products that are safe for people and the environment.
  • Product circularity: We use 100% recovered wood, backed by Osiris technology – the patented system behind the world’s first industrial MDF recycling plant. Add our Recover take-back programme for wood waste, and you get a closed loop where discarded boards become raw material for new MDF.
  • Social fairness: Our zero-harm safety policy and full risk analysis of direct suppliers help ensure fair working conditions and a positive social impact throughout MDF production.
  • Water and soil stewardship: By optimising water use, avoiding hazardous wastewater and eliminating soil contamination risks, we help protect clean water and healthy soil.
  • Clean air and climate protection: We maximise renewable energy use, such as heat from biomass, optimise energy consumption and avoid harmful emissions. The result? A significantly lower climate impact from our MDF production.

A natural step within One Home

This certification fits seamlessly within One Home, our sustainability strategy. One Home focuses on three clear ambitions: reducing our footprint, guaranteeing a safe workplace, and creating better living environments. The Cradle to Cradle Certified® approach reinforces that ambition with clear criteria, independent verification and a mindset of continuous improvement.

Earlier, we achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze V4.0 for raw and melamine-faced chipboard and for HPL. With this world first for MDF, we take another decisive step towards a circular wood industry. And we keep building our Wood Revolutions.
