Designing our new Master Oak collection: an exclusive look behind the scenes

31/10/2024

Dressed to impress: our brand-new Master Oak collection, with12 freshly-launched Supermat and Master Oak decors. A beautiful dialogue between old and new, past and future, tradition and innovation. But there’s more than meets the eye! Time to unveil the artistry and dedication behind each and every design.

A 5-step process

Designing new decors isn’t just a matter of randomly mixing colours and textures. Rather, it’s a meticulous 5-step process that requires thoughtful preparation, industry expertise and creative vision. Each stage plays a crucial role in bringing the final design to life, ensuring every detail reflects the quality and craftsmanship of our Master Oak collection.

Head designer Sam Lormans explains: “It all begins with inspiration. We dive into trend fairs, attend trend talks and conduct competitor analysis. Then comes my favourite part: hitting the road to find that perfect ‘original’ material that embodies the characteristics we need for our panels. Once we’ve found it, the original goes to our in-house scanning department, where our technical experts ensure every detail is captured in depth. After that, we move on to layout and colour development, before refining the texture. That’s when everything comes together.

Transcending trends

The original Master Oak collection owes its success to its ability to convey the natural beauty of real wood. For the 12 new decors, it was essential to stay true to Master Oak's identity while bringing a fresh touch to its timeless appeal. “That’s why we started from the existing palette, creating decors that complement it and that go beyond seasonal trends.”

The new collection is rooted in the past, present and future”

Sam says. “Take the nostalgic charm of aged materials, for instance. You can see this in the Cérusée effect on our patina natural and patina greige panels. But the present plays a role too. With today’s overwhelming influx of external stimuli, we crave a sanctuary at home. That’s why the collection features warm tones like natural hay, copper, and taupe – colours that whisper instead of shout. Looking ahead, we also aimed to push boundaries and innovate, which led to the creation of our green Master Oak. It pairs beautifully with the new Supermat conifer, adding an edgy and forward-thinking dimension to the collection.”

Now, it’s your turn to master the new: discover the new collection and create your own sanctuary with Master Oak and Supermat!
