“Inspired by the classic interiors featured in Mad Men, but with a playful twist, courtesy of Magritte”, states Karina Soors of Studio Woot Woot when prompted to describe this MOOD. “Many offices of prestigious organisations such as banks and law firms have interiors that are stately – but actually in need of an update. In such offices, dark wood panelling can feel oppressive. By adding softer elements and combining warm woods, it’s possible to create an accessible openness”, she explains.
With CLASSIC STATE OF MIND, you’re inspired to design an interior with a timeless character. Dark colours combined with clean lines exude certainty and dependability. With the addition of soft pink and gold accessories with rounded forms, the space also displays a more sensitive and empathetic aspect. In a professional environment, it’s desirable to create a feeling of respect and high standing. In order to radiate that class, many companies opt for luxurious, timeless character – but the choice then prioritises opulent materials over colour. However, classic doesn’t have to mean boring. “A dark colour palette should be alleviated by natural tones such as soft pink and burgundy”, says Karina.
“Play with these warm tones by combining them with different types of wood. A space remains classic until you add the right accessories”, Karina explains. “Let the warm tones meet and play with gold accents. Symmetrical, graphic layouts transform these functional objects into stylish items.”

A classic in a modern outfit
A classic MOOD also involves working with a limited number of materials and colours. “Start with a modest colour palette”, Karina advises. “Include black and gold for their timeless appeal and add a nude to express softness. Play around with different materials, such as glossy combined with satin finishes, alternating the graphic vibe with a slight playfulness.
